Day 93 Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 23-25, Luke 10:1-37, Psalm 75 and Proverb 12:12-14
When God gives us a clear instruction, such as Jesus did to this lawyer, we have questions and need explanations; we need words defined; we try to justify ourselves by finding ways around what he tells us. Our first reaction is rarely, “Fine, Lord, I’ll do it right away.” After Jesus shares with him the parable of the good Samaritan, the lawyer is still faced with a clear instruction, “Go and do likewise.” Will we?
"But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, 'And who is my neighbor?'" – Luke 10:29 (English Standard Version)
"Dear Lord, forgive me for being like this lawyer, trying to justify myself to you. You know my tendency to sometimes avoid and delay what should be done. I thank you for the love, grace and mercy that cleanses me of all my disobedience. Help me to do your will today. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
