Day 104 Bible Reading: Joshua 10, Luke 17:1-19, Psalm 83 and Proverb 13:4
We know that without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). When the disciples cried out to the Lord and asked for an increase in faith, what was it for? To fight against temptation? To move mountains? To please God? The context tells us that forgiveness was the issue and Jesus had great expectations on them. The disciples knew that this expectation was beyond human strength and ability - especially when they knew scriptures demanded “an eye for an eye” (New Testament wasn’t written yet). Jesus said we must forgive our brother no matter how many times he repents and asks forgiveness. Now that requires faith!
"The apostles said to the Lord, 'Increase our faith!'" – Luke 17:5 (English Standard Version)
"Lord, forgiveness can be hard. You know my heart but Your Word tells me I must forgive my brother. Please give me the faith to obey Your Word. Change my heart and mind to faithfully serve You. Amen."
