2018-05-27 (SUN) Proud Or Thankful?

Day 147 Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 11-12, John 16, Psalm 119:65-80 and Proverb 16:4-5 Link opens new window

What’s the problem with pride? Biblical writers unanimously condemn pride because it promotes an illusion of self-sufficiency. It discounts grace; it ignores God’s hand; it strangles thankfulness. Pride is the core of sin, and we need to abandon and destroy it before it destroys us. Maybe today you can humbly write out a quick ‘Thanks’ list of just a few things God has done for you.

"Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished." – Proverbs 16:5 (English Standard Version)

"Dear Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve acted self-sufficient, proud, or arrogant about my own health, wealth or accomplishments. It’s so easy. And so wrong. Give me a humble heart; a thankful spirit consciously aware that whatever I am and have comes from you. You are my source; you are my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
