Day 14
The Hebrew word for peace is shalom. Shalom’s basic meaning is wholeness and well-being in all areas of life. Solomon wrote:
A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (Prov. 4:30)
The absence of peace often leads to frustrations, fear and fatality. We all battle the desire to find peace in our lives and peaceful solutions for our problems. Peace. We all need it. We seek it. But we often struggle to keep it. But in order to have a peaceful heart we must begin with having peace with God. Life lived apart from God is incomplete. Separated from God life is empty and without peace.
"There is no peace," says the LORD, "for the wicked." (Isa. 48:22)
Only in Jesus can we find real peace. He is the Prince of Peace. Because of His death on the cross, peace with God and peace with men is made possible for everyone and from everywhere.
"Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace." - Ephesians 6:10-15 (English Standard Version)
"Heavenly Father, sometimes it feels like I’m in a battle zone, in an endless storm and everything is out of control. I need Your peace and presence in me. Lord, calm my spirit and let me be in peace with You. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen!"
