Day 348 Bible Reading: Jonah 1-4, Revelation 5, Psalm 133 and Proverbs 29:24-25
God is a God of second chances. He doesn’t have to be and we dare not presume it, but he often does give people another chance to make a right choice. After we read all about Jonah’s running away, the ship in danger, the frantic sailors, and the great fish experience, Jonah is returned to ‘square one’ to hear the instructions again. This time he gets it right, and thousands of people are saved from destruction.
"Then the word of the Lord came to Jonah the second time, saying, 'Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it the message that I tell you.'" – Jonah 3:1-2 (English Standard Version)
"Heavenly Father, I recognise myself in the story of Jonah. I’ve resisted you at times and wanted to go my own way - the opposite way! Forgive me, Lord. Thank you for the many ‘second chances’ you’ve given me because you are a God ‘gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and abounding in love.’ All praise, honour, and glory go to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
