Day 144 Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 4-6, John 13:21-38, Psalm 119:17-32 and Proverb 15:31-32 
When David and his men took this small fortified city from the Jebusites, it became an enduring symbol for Israel, God's protection and favour. This is the first time the word 'Zion' is used to describe it, but the word occurs over 150 times in Scripture, continuing into the book of Revelation. In the New Testament, Zion refers to God’s spiritual kingdom. Today we have not come to Mount Sinai because the word became a man. Jesus brought the presence of God to us, and His kingdom is in us now. If God had a 'home,' it would be Zion. Zion is not only a place, is a presence of God, is a kingdom of God.

"Dear Lord, I'm aware today that nowhere is the 'promised land' more focused than in the word Zion, presence of God, the kingdom of God. You love the Jews in a particular way; they are your 'chosen people.' I pray for Jerusalem and Israel today. I pray for its peace and safety. I pray that those living there will recognize you as their Messiah. They will not miss the Kingdom of God in the law, so they will not miss Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
