Day 149 Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 14, John 18:1-24, Psalm 119:97-112 and Proverb 16:8-9 
We pursue warmth and other’s company when feeling vulnerable. But at what price? Peter’s seeking comfort from a charcoal fire among strangers who would soon disperse elicited his denial of Jesus. Now are you also in such a tight corner as Peter, preparing to trade Christ for a passing relief? Peter was not under a new covenant on that day because Jesus had yet finished his work on the Cross. Today, Jesus finished his work. He is alive. We have the Holy Spirit in us. We are under a new covenant with Jesus. After Peter was under His new covenant, Peter gave his life to Christ. He was crucified upside-down in Rome.
"The servant girl at the door said to Peter, 'You also are not one of this man's disciples, are you?' He said, 'I am not.' Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself." – John 18:17-18 (English Standard Version)
"Lord, I will keep my eyes on You so that my endurance level will increase in stressful situations. Help me to hold fast to Your Kingdom so I will not deny You and Your Kingdom for the momentary relief I may find in the wrong people. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
