Day 346 Bible Reading: Amos 7-9, Revelation 3, Psalm 131 and Proverbs 29:21-22 Link opens new window

If you were going to paint a picture of serenity, it would be hard to beat the metaphor presented here by the psalmist – a mother rocking her young, newly weaned child. What could be safer? What could feel more warm and comfortable? Are you tense, tired, or anxious today? Close your eyes and have a rest in the presence of God, our Saviour, who loves you.

"But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me." – Psalm 131:2 (English Standard Version)

"Father God, my soul, needs quieting today. The stress and tensions around me sometimes seep inside. Make the psalmist's statement mine as well. Give me the 'shalom' peace that comes only from you. Give me patience and flexibility with those around me; keep me from snapping at them. I want to relax and rest entirely in you. In Jesus' name, Amen."
