Reflection
As a son of Solomon, Rehoboam lived a luxurious life and was surrounded by other young men that he had grown up with. The consequences of pride are described in Jeremiah 5:21. He had eyes but could not see how able and industrious Jeroboam was and the heavy yoke that had been placed on the people. He had ears but could not hear the wise counsel of the elders because it did not align with his thoughts. Instead, he listened to his long-time friends whose words were music to his ears.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, take away our pride and open our spiritual eyes and ears to see and hear the Truth before us. Help us to seek Your wise counsel that is not of this world, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
