Reflection
If we truly take these verses seriously, this is a life-changing promise. However, it can sound vague, and difficult to discern how to not “walk, stand, and sit” in wrong paths. Notice the first action is “walk”. In Genesis 3, deception is the serpent’s key weapon, but it only became effective through engaging with the serpent, allowing its thoughts to mess up our minds. If we walk past, and not engage, then we won’t fall into deception.
We only need to quickly recognise the voice of the serpent – negative thoughts, grey areas that go against God’s word, and then to IMMEDIATELY walk past it. Don’t even stand to engage. If we start standing, then soon we will sit… and most likely we will never walk away.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, You are our true and reigning King. We confess that we often engage with ideas that contradict Your words. We ask for grace to remain faithful and walk in Your path even when You answer our prayers different to what we hoped. Give us courage to choose what is right over what is convenient. May Your Kingdom priorities, not the pressure of the world, shape our path and decisions. Amen.
