He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither.

Psalm 1:3 (ESV)

The Way of Righteousness

Reflection Psalms 1-2 paint the contrast between the righteous and the wicked. The righteous refuse the downward spiral of sin, delight in God’s word, and flourish like a tree planted by streams of water. Their life is rooted, fruitful, and enduring. The wicked, by contrast, are like chaff – rootless, lifeless, and blown away. We are to serve the Lord with reverence and take refuge in His Son. True blessing is found in two things: being rooted in God’s word and resting in God. The way of righteousness leads to flourishing, and the reign of Christ secures our refuge. Choose the path of life, meditate on Scripture day and night, and entrust ourselves to the enthroned King.
Prayer We thank You for showing us the path of life through Your Word. Keep us from walking in the counsel of the wicked, standing in the way of sinners, or sitting in the seat of scoffers. Instead, plant us deeply in Your truth, like trees by streams of living water, bearing fruit in season and never withering. Amen.
