Reflection
I have often found this verse difficult, because it can be hard to truly believe that we are a new creation after conversion. However, studying Matthew 5:3 has given me a deeper understanding. Jesus teaches that we should see ourselves as “poor in spirit,” recognising our need for God. This means choosing to rely on His wisdom, timing, strength, and resources rather than our own. When we do this, we avoid making misguided choices, and God provides the patience and resources we need to walk faithfully in His plans for our lives. By depending on God we are no longer our old selves but have become new.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we confess that though You call us to be a new creation, we often follow our own will and ignore the wisdom found in Your Word. Forgive us for relying on ourselves instead of You. Please renew our minds and hearts, teaching us to depend on Your wisdom, timing, strength, and resources. Help us to embrace the promises You freely give, so that we may walk faithfully in Your plans and reflect Your light in all we do. Amen.
