Reflection
The hymn ‘Trust and Obey’ has always left an impression ever since I first heard it at my high school service. The hymn was written and composed in the 1800s after a man gave a testimony and said ‘I am not quite sure—but I am going to trust, and I am going to obey. The chorus ‘Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey’ describes our walk with Jesus so simply yet accurately. Throughout the Bible, numerous accounts of obedience go hand in hand with trusting God: Abraham’s calling, Noah and the ark, the widow with the flour and oil, and Mary’s calling. Obeying God especially in uncertainty is certainly daunting. But there is freedom and joy that comes with surrender and letting go of wanting to control everything, when we choose to obey Him. Know that He, who upholds the universe, will also uphold your life.
Prayer
Jesus, teach us to trust and obey You in all seasons of our lives, even when it feels uncomfortable or daunting. You have shown Your steadfast faithfulness and goodness and we hold on to these promises. In Your Name we pray, Amen.
