Reflection
Recently, my family fell victim to an engineered online scam that caused us to lose a very significant sum of money. We feel deeply wrong and downcast in spirit. Our suffering came from someone else’s fraudulent actions and sin. Forgiveness is the last thing on our minds, especially for the scammer’s wicked intent and lies. I fell into the “Free Man Imprisoned” condition.
I praise God that I was assigned to write a devotion on forgiveness before the incident took place. As I reflected on the sermon, I realised that I had unforgiveness towards the scammer. I was upset about the money stolen from us. From the sermon, I learnt that wrongdoers are debtors, meaning they do “owe” us. It doesn’t play down nor deny their sin. But with God, there is forgiveness (Colossians 3:13-14). Jesus does not overlook the pain; He knows pain. Though He was on the cross, bleeding, wronged and accused, he called out “Father, forgive them.”
Prayer
Father Lord, I choose to forgive and to bless. I pray that those who have wronged us will come to know Christ’s forgiveness and mercy. Father, we trust that You will bring justice and restoration. You reign! Amen!
