Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.John 15:4-5 (ESV)
Jesus repeatedly tells his disciples to abide in Him in John 15. Why? If we stay connected to Christ, we will bear much spiritual fruit. We cannot bear fruit without Him. When we spend time in our relationship with God, the fruit of the Spirit produced in our lives builds up our character and transforms us. This brings supernatural blessings not only to ourselves but to others as well.
Father God, thank You for giving us the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us. Help us to be intentional in cultivating our relationship with You to stay connected to You, depending on You always so that we will be fruitful. May we always keep You as our first love and be motivated by Your love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
