Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.Proverbs 19:17 (ESV)
We are all familiar with the two greatest commandments which Jesus had laid down. How we view and handle money reflect our belief of the two commandments. Money is a gift from God and also a tool which God uses. When we pursue money more than seeking our Lord, how can we claim that we love God with all our hearts, our souls and our minds?
As we look at the second commandment, the question is how we use money to help our neighbours. One of the marks of a Christian is our generosity. We are to use money to help the poor and the needy. Prov. 19:17 considers helping the poor being likened to lending to the Lord. Wow...can you imagine lending to God? How much more would we give to the poor if we know God Himself planned to pay us back?
Dear Lord, Giver of all things – help me to be grateful for what l have, to remember Your commandments and to be generous to others. In my daily walk, fill me with compassion and make me a channel of blessings to those around me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
