The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.Philippians 4:9 (NASB)
When I was training for the Ironman triathlon, I would constantly seek out good swimmers to swim and train with. I discovered that when I trained with more experienced and stronger people, improvements came rapidly.
The same is true for our walk with God. Yes, it is good to have friends who are our age. However, there is much to be gained to deliberately seek out those who are more spiritually mature and older than us for counsel and advice. Seek out those who model Christ-like behavior – the “model” one (1 Timothy 4:12), those that can speak to our life. Their spiritual life experiences will enable us to also grow rapidly in our walk with God.
Lord, please bring into our life spiritual mentors, so that we are growing in our walk with You continually. And if our walk with You has become stagnant, will You re-energise and renew us. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
