Children, it is your Christian duty to obey your parents, for this is the right thing to do. “Respect your father and mother” is the first commandment that has a promise addedEphesians 6:1-2 (GNV)
(1) By God’s grace, my parents loved and cared for me to the best of their knowledge, giving more than their utmost, from womb to now. When I was and had nothing, they gave their everything. They were my providers, cheerleaders, teachers, investors, entertainers, doctors, counsellors - and more. Is honour really so much to give back? Lately, this meant sharing the guest list at my recent wedding banquet. My pleasure - and honour!
Yet, many cannot relate to (1), and understandably so. This leaves (2) - God commands it. If He says so, it is so - who am I to question His infinite love and wisdom? When He instructs, in faith, I will follow. Many instructions in the Bible I don’t fully understand, but I guess it is like a child trusting a parent figure all over again.
Heavenly Father, thank You for my parents. They are blessings. Help me today to honour them, and in so doing, glorify You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
