Since young, my siblings and I were taught never to address our mother ‘you’ casually, but ‘Mum you’ with respect.
On God’s high priority list, one command that comes with promise of blessings is to obey and honour our father and mother in very much the same way we want to please Him – in hearts, thoughts, words, and action. That includes listening, heeding, and submitting to their authority.
As we grow up, the obedience we learned as children will help us to be better followers of Christ’s example, the way we would reverentially approach our Heavenly Father–trust and obey.
Abba Father, thank You for our parents who gave us life, who nurtured and loved us. It is an honour to obey You in response to Your unconditional love. Honour begets honour. Give us grace and joy to honour our parents, help us when it is not easy. Help those who are parents to set a good example to their children. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
