“Enough of this, God! Take my life!” Elijah fell asleep under the lone broom bush. Elijah had faced the biggest test of his life, confronting the Israelites with God's call to repentance. When the outcome was not favourable, he lost heart. He even told God to take his life. Curiously, God didn't answer. He first sent an angel to give him food and water. Then He let Elijah sleep. Only afterwards, God spoke.
When God speaks, we listen - but to listen well, let us be well-rested. Even the wisest words don't register with a tired, hungry, grumpy saint.
Father, thank You for Your mercies that are new every day. We still our souls before You to hear You speak. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
