Esther 4:1-14 (ESV)
Brave words from Queen Esther after planning to ask the King to spare her people. She was willing to risk her life to save her people.
Have you been required to make a big sacrifice for God? Did you do it willingly or did you run away? I learnt two important lessons.
Sacrifice for a purpose: Esther knew that she had become queen for a purpose. When things get tough, we can ask ourselves: “Why did God put me here?” It is helpful to remember that God promotes us or puts us in a place or a relationship for a purpose. We need Godly wisdom to appreciate that purpose and to serve him where we are, even if it involves a big sacrifice.
Prayer and fasting: Esther decided to make this big sacrifice, but only with support of prayer and fasting. Jesus reminds us that special spiritual battles require special preparation with prayer and fasting.
Esther was determined to be obedient, whatever the cost. What about you and me?
Lord please help me to serve You, even when the cost is high. Help me to rely on you for strength to overcome challenges, with prayer and fasting. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
