The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favour in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.

I studied the book of Esther many years ago and was impressed with her courage and humility. Her obedience turned a severe situation around and saved the entire Jewish race. I asked myself how I can learn from her example. In HKSSM, I heard a testimony about a couple where the husband’s career flourished after his wife submitted to him in their marriage. I realised I faced a similar challenge, having grown up without emotional support from my father. When I got married, I would squabble over small issues with my husband and sometimes insist on my own way. I didn’t realise I had trouble submitting to my husband’s authority. After hearing the testimony, I made the decision to cheerfully submit to my husband and respect his decisions. Our relationship improved. This influenced my son in a positive way and made me a better listener to others.
Dear God, thank You for the example of Esther. I pray that obedience, a listening heart and mind will bring us favour in all situations and cause a turnaround from bad to good. In Jesus name, Amen.
