Mordecai) He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, the daughter of his uncle, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman had a beautiful figure and was lovely to look at, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.

In one verse, Esther’s physical beauty is described, but as we read further, we discover so much more about her character. She had favour wherever she went and with whomever she met. We also saw her obedience to Mordecai’s instruction not to reveal her Jewish identity. She showed courage as she called for her people to fast alongside her as she boldly approached the king, risking her life. Moreover, Esther displayed wisdom in her well-thought-out plan to seek vindication for herself and the Jews. Mordecai’s influence in her life was evident; he raised her with a deep understanding of God and His Word. Throughout this whole time, God was working behind the scenes to bring about an amazing victory. I call Esther blessed.
Father God, we thank You for the book of Esther. We see how You work behind the scenes for Esther. You would do the same for us too. Help us to be bold, to know Your word, the scriptures so that we can obey the truths found in them. May we have favour everywhere we go and with whomever we meet. In Jesus name, Amen.
