And I will betroth you to me forever. I will betroth you to me in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love and in mercy. I will betroth you to me in faithfulness. And you shall know the LORD.
Hosea 2:19-20 (ESV)
God tells the people of Israel that He will betroth, or engage, them to Himself. This engagement is everlasting and done with righteousness and love. He does this because He has compassion upon them. He is willing to make the commitment to love forever in a relationship with everyone who is willing. God will never fail in this relationship, so believers can walk into the relationship knowing it is real and forever. Only love that is freely given and freely received captures our heart and imagination and this is what God does. God seeks to capture our hearts with the passion and intensity of his love.
Jesus, nobody on this earth can compare your love upon us. Comprehending only a fraction of the depth and width of Your love already melts us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
