When I heard the phrase “go and make disciples”, I used to believe it meant ensuring people around me knew about Jesus – and hopefully one day, would become like Him, or whatever it looked like to fulfil their ‘potential’ as a Christian!
This misplaced focus distracted me from the true heart for discipleship – which is a heart for Jesus Himself! Now I care less about ensuring other people do the “right things” and more about ensuring my heart is attuned to Jesus. As in Mark chapter 6, Jesus calls, sends, and gives specific instructions for whatever His will is in reaching others who are yet to encounter Him. We can never ‘predict’ where we are sent to, or how!
Dear Heavenly Father, Your love and strength sustains us in every place we are in. Give us sensitivity to the Holy Spirit’s calling for us today. In Jesus name, Amen.
