Many of us know the best way to resolve conflict is not to react too quickly. Don’t be hasty and jump to the wrong conclusion before having all the facts.
In Acts 15:13-19, James listened to others before speaking to deal with the conflict arising from the issue of circumcision. The act of listening to others also signals to others that their opinions and views are taken seriously and considered. This helps to gain acceptance.
Reacting too quickly is also often a result of emotion, especially anger. Proverbs 16:32 says, "He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty.” Emotions cloud our judgement, and emotional reactions often get us into trouble. They are completely not helpful in resolving conflicts.
Let’s pray for God’s wisdom to be with us especially in times of difficult conflicts.
Lord, we ask for Your divine intervention in times of conflicts. Give us the wisdom to handle the issues with the right perspective. Help us manage our emotions, to listen before we speak. Amen.
