The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Psalm 9:9 (ESV)
At the first sign of trouble, people search for protection. A nervous child on stage looks for their parents in the audience. A student about to sit an important exam sends a text to their friend. When the economy looks bleak, some seek financial advisors. The onset of trouble exposes the reliability of such sources. During the Exodus, the Israelites cried out to God in their time of trouble. God showed Himself to be faithful. He came mightily to their rescue, sent a pillar of cloud for protection from the Egyptian army, and guided the Israelites to safety. As for you and I, the question is not 'if' trouble will come. It will. The real question is: will you cry out to God, the One who protects?
Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us time after time -in Your Word and in our lives- that You protect. Forgive us for putting others first. We trust You, our stronghold. In Jesus' name, Amen.
