Some struggle to believe God is merciful. They are ashamed of their sin, have made efforts to be done with it, but are back again and again bearing the same familiar confessions. Could God really forgive and love someone like this? Others struggle to believe God is just. They watch the godless enjoy comfort and success. They cling to the hope that everything will be made right, but wait in vain for evidence of justice. Could God possibly make anything good out of injustice?
God’s justice and mercy are two parts in one symphony. In His perfect mercy, He will neither break a bruised reed nor quench a smoldering wick. He stoops low to lift and support the weak, humble, trusting souls in His path. However, God makes no compromise with sin. In God’s perfect timing for justice, those who remain wicked will be judged and defeated.
Father, Your mercy is wide and deep. Thank You for lifting us up when we are weak. Lead us away from our sinful lives, so that we can be with You in eternity when You bring justice to completion. Amen.
