Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

The writer of Hebrews points out this powerful analogy that our Christian life is like running a race. The runner needs to understand his ultimate focus and goal, the requirements and conditions to complete the race, the capacity and wisdom required to handle the challenges and above all, the need for a heart of endurance. He understands that to complete the race successfully, one must persevere in consistent training, which requires discipline and determination, to break through barriers and limitations and to achieve the victorious mindset. As a believer in Christ, what comfort us is to know that this ‘race’ already marked out for us is with Christ, the Perfector of our faith. Our trust is fixed on Jesus, the Victorious One. Just like the many faithful saints that have gone before us, let us set our eyes on Jesus, letting go of any encumbrances, discouragements or opposition, while persevering in faith of His calling.
Lord, thank You for Your relentless love for us. Help us not to grow weary but to run the race set before us that we may be transformed and renewed, Your Name be glorified in all. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
