Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ. And because of my chains, most of the brothers and sisters have become confident in the Lord and dare all the more to proclaim the gospel without fear.

What stands out from Paul's passage is that he is so certain that the suffering he is going through is not in vain. However hopeless it seems, his suffering is to advance the gospel. How many people would have the stomach to declare this over their lives? I lose sight of the certainty of God's plan (for His glory and our good) even in only a little suffering, and ask, "What kind of blessing will this make, God? This is so painful!" I admire Paul's bold win-win mindset in stating that no matter what happens at his expense, Jesus is glorified, and that gives him the joy to persevere.
Jesus, if You are who You say You are, good and sovereign; no matter what happens in my life, You know it. Help me practice believing that Your glory is shown not only through nice things but in the sufferings, and though I don't see the blessing yet, it will be known in due time. In Jesus' name, Amen.
