Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.
Philippians 4:4 (ESV)
All of us face difficulties in life. But what makes a Christian stand out in the time of difficulties?
Paul reminds us to "Rejoice in the Lord, always". Rejoicing always might seem impractical, but a child of God is identified by this trait. Joy and happiness are different. Happiness depends on circumstances but joy is the outcome of holiness. It is Paul's holiness in Christ that is keeping him joyful in such a dire situation.
Because of his joy, he was able to uplift others at that time. In the same way, Jesus Himself was able to pray on the cross for others. Let us stand firm and find the joy in Christ that will help us go through everything that life throws at us.
Lord I pray for all who are going through difficulties. that they would be filled with Your peace and joy. Thank You for the precious gift of Jesus Christ. We know You can deliver us from anything, and even if You don't, our hope is in You alone. In the mighty name of our Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.
