I deliberately chose not to have a Caesarean birth or epidural anesthesia in order to to experience the full joy and pain of every minute during natural childbirth. Without epidural or narcotics, most birthing mothers rate labour a 10 on the pain scale of 1 to 10. Despite enduring intense pain, birthing mothers also feel every movement of the baby inside. That unbearable pain transforms into joy when the mother hears the first cry of her baby. All the pain becomes insignificant compared to theprecious new life. Though it may seem like a paradox, it encompasses overflowing love in the one who is suffering. When Christ died for us on the cross, though He suffered intensely, He was filled with joy when He thought of us in His mind.
Jesus, I am forever grateful for the cross. Let us fix our eyes on the cross, so that any suffering or pain in the process become dim in comparison to Your glory. In Christ Jesus. Amen.
