Joy is closely related to obedience, and obedience to a life laid down in Christ. The problem with joy is that it may not appear attractive in an external sense. The apostle Paul was in chains when he professed to have joy. It came from his mission not to live well, but to serve well. Jesus came to earth having no external beauty that we may be attracted to him, but instead, offering a way of life that brings us joy only when we are walking in and with him.
Heavenly Father, You are the source of true joy. We pray for those who have not yet experienced it to find it internally when they focus on You. We pray for those who have it to delight in helping others find and experience this same joy. It is so life-giving, Heavenly Father, as You make our time on earth worthwhile. In Jesus' I pray, Amen.
