Reflection
Elijah could have challenged one prophet instead of 450. He could have chosen a place other than Mount Carmel, a site associated with the worship of Baal. He could have prayed for fire without pouring water over the altar. But he didn’t. Elijah chose the hardest way in every aspect: the who, the where, the how.
If your prayer is too easy to accomplish, you may not even need God. Yet many of us hesitate to pray bold prayers because we fear disappointment or taking risks. As such, we miss the opportunity to encounter God in the impossible. Our lack of boldness and faith can limit our experience with God.
If you find yourself in the hardest of situations, congratulations! It may be your chance to witness God at work. Don’t doubt Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help us to dream with You and dream Your dreams. Speak to us as You spoke to Elijah. Give us the internal assurance of what You will do. Strengthen our faith so that whatever happens, we will have hope and not be disappointed. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
