Reflection
Christians live in a strange tension between humility and boasting. To acknowledge our need for salvation through Jesus requires humility. The woman with the alabaster jar recognised her need for forgiveness. Simon the Pharisee did not. She was humble. Simon the Pharisee was not. Then Jesus rebuked Simon while telling the woman to go in peace. As far as east is from west, so far has He removed our sins from us (Psalm 103:12). We can boast in Jesus for this reason (1 Corinthians 1:30-31). It is paradoxical, but life in Christ seems to require both humility and boasting.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for removing all our sin through Jesus. Because of this, we have peace in His name and want to love You and others more each day. Keep us humble and let us boast in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
