Reflection
In squash, one tactic to win is to deceive the opponent, by disguising the way you hit the ball so the opponent moves in the wrong direction. To counter this, players must study their opponents’ patterns and tactics, creating as little opportunity as possible for deception. Elite athletes practice to ingrain this into muscle memory so they won’t be deceived easily.
The Bible says that the enemy is always on the lookout for prey. Like squash, we need to practice our spiritual acuity to guard against deception. Godly wisdom is needed to discern truth and falsehood. As elite athletes devote hours of practice to gain muscle memory, we need to walk with Jesus daily and actively fill our minds and spirits with the Word of God to counter deception. May we be encouraged knowing that the Holy Spirit and Scripture guides us.
Prayer
Jesus, help us to always be on guard against the enemy. We need Your wisdom to discern lies from the enemy. May we actively listen and obey Your voice every day. Take away all the lies and deception from the enemy preventing a life of freedom. In Your Holy Name we pray, Amen.
