Reflection
The 19th-century historian Lord Acton famously wrote, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” He made this observation while debating whether powerful leaders should be judged by a different moral standard than ordinary people. His answer was ‘NO’, authority does not remove accountability.
History offers examples of leaders such as Lincoln, Mandela and Washington, who exercised restraint and upheld their values despite holding great power. Yet both history and Scriptures remind us that success, influence and prosperity can easily lead hearts astray. Paul warns, “So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12).
Temptation often enters subtly. As responsibilities and achievements grow, pride and self-reliance can replace humility and dependence on God. Whether we lead many or serve quietly, we must remain vigilant, prayerful and accountable to fellow believers.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for Your blessings and the responsibilities You entrust to us. Keep us humble and faithful. Help us seek Your wisdom daily and remain accountable to one another. Guard our hearts from pride and temptation, and lead us in Your truth, that our lives may bring glory to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
