Reflection
Why does a person with the Holy Spirit still sin? Why is it so hard to take off our “old clothes”? We can blame it on “deceitful desires”. We are tricked into believing that we cannot live without satisfying these desires.
But such satisfactions do not last. They are experienced on earth, last a short time, and can easily become something negative. We can break the cycle if we focus on godly desires instead. When we seek God’s Kingdom—that is, eternity—we gain an even greater satisfaction that lasts forever.
This is easier said than done. We will face difficulty “taking off” our old clothes, and our weakness can easily give in to deceitful desires, causing us to forget godly desires. This is where we must lean on God’s grace—and more so, on God’s Word. Jesus empowers us to focus on the right goal and rewards us with the greatest satisfaction for our ultimate good.
Prayer
Dear Lord, set me free from the bondage of deceitful desires. May the Holy Spirit strengthen and empower me to overcome sin and renew my mind, so I can live the life You have made for me. Amen!
