Reflection
After discerning Jesus’ innocence three times, Pilate asked an all-important question, “What is truth?”. Yet he still compromised with the voices of the crowd to crucify the Truth of truths (John 18). Could we have fallen prey to the same?
Shortly after setting the adulterous woman free (John 8), Jesus said, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” While we’re each wonderfully and uniquely created (Psalm 139:13-16), the same self-centred autonomy that lured Adam and Eve, when “every man did what was right in his own eyes”, isn’t true freedom. The prodigal sons’ father yearns for the children to know what sonship freedom truly is (Luke 15).
Truth has become more blurred, and choices are often obscured in shades of grey, making it difficult to abide in the Word (John 8:31). Therefore, we need to trust in the mighty power of God’s Word. When the small magnets are cleared, the compass can once again point to the right direction it’s meant to.
Prayer
Merciful Jesus, set free those in captivity so that they can live in true and everlasting freedom as Your sons and daughters. Help and empower us to abide in Your Word. Amen.
