Reflection
Years ago, I was sure I should quit my job. The reasons felt right—frustration, boredom, a sense of being undervalued. I had already drafted the resignation letter when an older brother in Christ asked gently, “Have you prayed about your own pride in this?”
I hadn't. I only wanted counsel that agreed with me. Like Rehoboam, I sought young men who would validate my anger. But godly counsel isn't an echo chamber; it's a mirror.
That brother saved me from a foolish decision. Within months, my role upgraded, and I saw God’s hand where I had seen only injustice. Pride whispers, “You know best.” Wisdom whispers, “Listen.”
Prayer
Lord, forgive us for seeking only the counsel we want to hear. Give us humble hearts that welcome correction, and courage to act on wisdom even when it stings. Surround us with godly advisers who love us enough to speak truth. Amen.
