Reflection
Just as we seek forgiveness from God, it is equally important that we forgive those who have sinned against us. When someone hurts us, our instinct is to demand justice. Forgiveness can feel like letting them get away with their actions unfairly.
Forgiving others is a clear command in Scripture and is closely tied to receiving forgiveness from God. As Matthew 6:14-15 states, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”
When we remember how much God has forgiven us—our own countless sins against Him—it becomes easier, though not easy naturally, to extend grace to forgive. Colossians 3:13 puts it plainly: “Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”
Prayer
Our Heavenly Father, we confess our unforgiveness and ask for Your grace to help us forgive others. Take away any bitterness, anger or resentment in us, give us strength to forgive and bless them. Heal the hurt and free us to walk in love and peace. Bear with us and help us forgive as You have forgiven us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
