Reflection
For Christians today, idolatry is not visiting temples or bowing before carved images. It is subtle, hidden in our hearts. When we prioritise careers, ambitions, relationships, possessions or anything over God and His will, they become idols. The danger doesn’t lie with people or things, but in elevating them above the Lord who gave them in the first place.
God reveals His will plainly. As we study the Bible, we learn His nature and discern what pleases or displeases Him. When we face uncertainties, He calls us to trust Him with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding, and He will make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5–6). Idolatry is simply disobedience: choosing self over surrender. Let us not take God’s mercy, patience, and steadfast love for granted, but surrender everything to Him who is worthy of wholehearted devotion, worship, and obedience. Let us follow God alone, for He alone is God!
Prayer
Heavenly Father, search our hearts and reveal any idols that grieve You. Lead us to repentance and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Restore the joy of Your salvation. Teach us to walk in complete devotion to You! In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen!
