Reflection
To kiss is a public display of affection. A kiss bestows respect. To kiss requires vulnerability – what if the other shirks away? Are we prepared to kiss Jesus? The fact is God loved and ‘kissed’ us first: with the breath of life (Genesis 2) or as the loving father running towards and kissing the prodigal child (Luke 15). No wonder the woman in Luke 7 kissed the feet of Jesus.
Let’s think: what does kissing the Son look like for me and you? To honour Jesus publicly, affectionately, respectfully, vulnerably? In our home, workplace, community? It probably looks like folly to the world. But Psalms 1-2 surely suggest the way of the Lord is unlike the way of the world.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us first. As we reflect on that great love, help us to love You and embrace Your loving kindness everywhere we go. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
