Reflection
Paul urges us to give generously, and we will “reap bountifully”. What motivates us to give? Is it Jesus’ example, role models, or compelling needs? For me, these verses introduce a new motivation: contentment.
God rewards my giving, turning the sowing of seeds into a great harvest. He blesses me, materially and spiritually, storing up rewards for eternity. That sense of blessing leads to contentment. I am also reminded that the abundance I enjoy is for every good work. We are blessed to be God’s channels of blessing to others.
I give regularly to certain causes and respond to certain needs God puts before me. I pray over decisions – whether, when, how much to give, how it will be used. I trust God will multiply the impact and yield a harvest of righteousness for His Kingdom.
This helps me to be content and have a thankful heart, to not compare my giving to others or judge what they should give. Instead, I look to God, trusting Him to multiply my time, talents and finances for His kingdom.
Prayer
Lord, help us to sow and reap bountifully and be content because You have enriched us in every way.
