Reflection
Even without disgraceful motive or desire for self-promotion, persecution can still occur. Other people’s assumptions and judgments alone are often enough to provoke opposition. Stephen and James were persecuted even by those within the church. In such moments, we may cry out to God, “Where are You in their lives if You are truly with all who believe in You?”
Paul was stoned and presumed dead, yet he rose again. David was persecuted by Saul—another man who claimed to believe in God—yet the Lord placed Saul’s fate in David’s hands. Like David and Paul, we often face persecution before stepping into our calling, and while walking in it. David declared that God prepares a table before him in the presence of his enemies. So does He for us.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, You have never left me nor forsaken me, even when others have misunderstood or mistreated me. I surrender into Your hands those who persecute me. Please bless our relationships and open their eyes to see the truth as clearly. I also pray that You will bless them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
