And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.

Mark 11:25 (ESV)

How Can I Forgive?

Reflection Christ forgave all my sins and commands me to forgive ANYONE who has wronged me. Otherwise, bitterness takes root. I have experienced the toll it can take on my spiritual, physical, emotional and mental health, even hindering my prayers.

But how do I forgive someone who has deeply hurt me, especially someone close who I love? The key is asking the Holy Spirit for the strength to forgive, and to remind me that I too have wronged that person and contributed to the rift. Doing this daily helps, and how long it takes differs each time. It is not simply saying sorry.

Sometimes, even after I think I have forgiven, traces of bitterness remain. In those moments, I commit to forgive again. Each time, I experience restored relationships and more effective prayer. Though forgiveness is never easy when the pain is raw, but realising the necessity, having hope of healing, and committing it to prayer, makes all the difference.

Try it––healing will come. Jesus is there, holding your hand, drying your tears, and healing your heart.
Prayer Jesus, give me strength to forgive when I feel I cannot do it, and give me hope of healing. Amen.
