For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!

Romans 8:15 (ESV)

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Shift from Slavery to Sonship—the Power Struggle Within

Reflection A believer’s new life begins with a shift of attitude and mindset from self to the Spirit. It is a divine exchange of identity from slavery to Sonship.

By grace through faith in Christ’s redemption and resurrection, God has given us the Spirit of adoption as sons and daughters, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”.  We are no longer slaves to fear but empowered by the Spirit to live with power, love and self-control.

To walk in freedom and maturity is to heed the Holy Spirit’s still, small voice nudging our conscience. It is to sift our thoughts and actions through scriptures, allowing Him to sanctify us. As we stand on God’s truth, we can reject fear and temptation, and be set free from idols and the desires of the flesh.
Prayer Abba Father, thank You for the power of Your love, that we can overcome and have victory through Your Spirit’s continuous renewal within us to help us live out the mind of Christ every day.  We choose to honor You, to proclaim "Yet not I, but through Christ in me!" In Jesus’ name, Amen.
