Reflection
Think about a time when you faced a specific or complicated situation and you were seeking out someone who has been in that exact situation, whether to seek their advice or just confide in. Shared experience is a powerful aspect of human relationships as it helps us to relate better with one another.
In the same way, 2 Corinthians 1:4-5 highlights that we are not alone in our suffering because we share in Christ’s suffering as well. He is also able to sympathise with us, and this is surely an encouragement to us in our challenges. Beyond our suffering, God’s comfort is not to be kept to ourselves, but to comfort others as well. This is the beauty of being in the family of Christ - we are not alone in our suffering, and that our suffering can be used to encourage others.
Prayer
Jesus, thank You that You are there in our suffering, walking with us and not leaving us alone. Teach us to empathise and encourage others the way You have comforted us. Help us to be compassionate and comfort those who need it the most. In Your name we pray, Amen.
