Reflection
In reality, nobody likes to boast of their own weaknesses but of their strengths. Most people tend to hide their weaknesses, flaws, and failures. Weakness is like shame.
However, Paul does the opposite because God's grace is sufficient for him. Indeed, our weaknesses are not a barrier to God's power. When we stop striving to be strong, we allow His strength to be our own. Instead of praying for removal of weakness, we can thank Him for the very thing that invites His power to rest upon us. Our inadequacy is the platform for His all-sufficiency.
Prayer
Father, forgive us for wasting energy on trying to appear strong. We hand You our weaknesses - the ones we hide and the ones we cannot fix. Thank You for the thorn; it reminds us of our need for You. Let us cease our striving and choose to boast in our limitation, so that Your grace may work perfectly in us. We surrender our inadequacy and receive Your sufficiency. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
